We had a very successful day on Sunday. Eighty people participated in thirteen groups on one or more of the six walks we offered on the Herbert Forest Tracks. It was very encouraging to have eight family groups taking part. Most of the walkers came from North Otago, but we also had visitors from Timaru and Dunedin. The groups were guided by twelve members of the North Otago Tramping and Mountaineering Club, and another four members did the organising at base. The day was made possible by the support of Port Blakely (forest owners), North Otago Motor Group who provided the minibus which ferried walkers to and from track ends, and North Otago Search and Rescue who provided radio communications.
Finally, the success of the day owes a lot to the publicity which you helped provide in The Telegram.
Thanks and Regards,
John Chetwin – For North Otago Tramping and Mountaineering Club.
