Oamaru to host Swimming Otago 2017 Winter Series Regional Swimming MeetClose to 750 visitors from Swim Clubs from all over Otago will converge on Oamaru in July for the final in the Swimming Otago Winter Tri Series Swim Meet.Kerren Keach from Swimming Otago said, “The Waitaki Aquatic Centre was a fantastic surprise to many of our members who attended in 2016 and we wish to return in 2017.” The event will be the final in the tri series, to be held on Sunday 2 July. Warm up will start at 9.30am with racing commencing at 10.30am, approximate completion time of 4.30pm. Competitor numbers will be in excess of 150 plus officials, coaches, managers and supporters which will swell the numbers to close to 750 visitors over the day. Waitaki Aquatic Centre Manager Matthew Lanyon says, “Over the last couple of years we have worked hard in building our Squad Swimming programme, and attracting regional swim meets to our town is great recognition of the success of our local swimmers and coaching programme.”This event is run by the Oamaru Swimming Club and Club President Sonya MacDonald says, “This is a great opportunity for people to come and see some of our up-and-coming swimmers as well as nationally ranked age group swimmers from around the region.” Successful swimmers have the opportunity to qualify and compete in the National Age Group Short Couse championship held in Auckland in October.
