This Saturday and Sunday the North Otago Rock and Mineral club is holding the 46th Annual Gemstone Jewellery and Craft fair in the Scottish Hall on Tyne Street. Stallholders from all over New Zealand attend each year, bringing along their wonderful rock and gem collections, as well as handmade jewellery and crafts. There’ll also be displays from the Club’s own collection which include fantastic local rock finds and Moa bones. It’s the first weekend of the school holidays and there’s fun for the kids – they can unearth their own archaeological find in a ‘Fossil’ rock lucky dip, play with clay and enjoy dinosaur and gemstone face painting. The heaters will be on in the Hall so it will be warm and cosy inside – be sure to pop in to have a look. The fair runs from 9am – 4.30pm on Saturday the 8th, and 10am – 4pm Sunday 9th.
