New mountain bike track under constructionMountain Bike North Otago (MTBNO) have started constructing a new mountain bike track on the Glen Eden Reserve. Parks Officer Mike Kwant says the track is being constructed by club members over the coming weeks and will provide another location in Oamaru for cyclists to test their mettle. “This reserve is located between the Oamaru township and Reservoir Road, and provides mountain bikers with an alternative off-road connection en route to the reservoir where there are a number of mountain bike tracks with varying degrees of difficulty.” The new track being built starts at the top of the Glen Eden Reserve (at the dead end of Reservoir Road) and will wind down through young pine trees to the bottom of the gully where existing tracks provide access to the end of Glen Street. “This new track is consistent with the Waitaki Reserves Management Plan, adopted by Council in 2014, and provides the district with a comprehensive blueprint of how our reserves have and will be developed in coming years.”
