There was a good attendance at the Library, for the intriguing presentation of New Zealands’ unique bird – the Moa, by local identity Burns Pollock. Moas were found at about 15 different sites in North Otago, and Awamoa – land of the Moa – was the reason for Awamoa Rd being named by Walter Mantel. Female birds were around twice the size of males – producing huge eggs which would have held 34 normal sized hens eggs.. Burns Pollock holds a huge bone from a Moa’s leg.
