Vision for a Community Learning Centre in Oamaru Getting Nearer

Literacy North Otago is delighted to announce that we have now moved to 20 Ribble St. Oamaru, just down the road towards Humber St.
The new space is fully accessible and the whole space is much larger, is beautifully decorated and has more rooms where we can offer more courses. It has taken 18 months to create the plans, raise the money and do the work. The contractors and suppliers that we have worked with have generously given more than they quoted for or very reasonably rates and we greatly appreciate their contribution to the outcome: Placemakers, Resene Paints, Duncan Plumbing and Drain Laying, Pat’s Electrical, Colin Clearwater, Mark Velenski Building Ltd, Spark, Kerry & Co, Oamaru IT Solutions and Altrusa Club of Oamaru.
Our courses this year so far include: employment skills, motorbike renovation, pet care, drawing class, computing for beginners and up to level 2, English conversation and English through the Bible. As usual we have driving licence theory. There will be more courses as the year goes on. All the courses can contribute to credits for NCEA level 1 & 2.
The other exciting thing is that the space is going to be available for other community groups to use, with a contribution to running costs. If your group would like to know more please contact Literacy North Otago 434 2236.
Fundraising for the last stage of the development: to complete the kitchen, install an interactive screen, some more computers, to fit out the mechanic/woodwork space and put up the signage is getting underway.
The new centre is ready and waiting for you. Come in to 20 Ribble St or call us, 03 434 2236, for help with your learning.
